Lecture and discussion with Isabell Lorey
Staircase 1, Museum
The workshop explores the question whether the representation-critical movements of the past years can be understood as trailblazers for a presentist democracy. ‘Presentist’ implies neither immediacy without a past nor spontaneity in the here and now without any organisation. Rather, the notion of the presentist breaks with the dichotomy between spontaneity and organisation and practises a different form of temporality and thereby a different form of democratic instituting.
As preparation for the workshop we recommend reading Lorey’s text ‘Presentist Democracy’.
