JazzWerkstatt Wien New Ensemble & Willi Landl

Concert at WUK

Planing, sawing, sanding, lathing – that’s what one usually associates with a workshop. And indeed, JazzWerkstatt Wien – the jazz workshop Vienna – is somehow similar to the industrious activities ado in a handcraft shop. The in-house ‘New Ensemble’ is dedicated to contemporary jazz – between acoustic and electronic, experimental and pop.

Shantel & Bucovina Club Orkestar

Concert at WUK

Shantel is one of the most impressive live spectacles around! There is likely no other German artist who can bring the audience into such a fervour, whether in a metropolis in Greece, Italy, or France or at mega rock festivals like Glastonbury or Roskilde. When he and his Bucovina Club Orkestar infuse the complete stage with life and crystallise global sounds into compact, anarchic hymns, then eclecticism and escapism are not all that distant cousins. No worries: The hood is alright.

Save yourself

Installation at WUK

A 7-metre-high sculpture on the WUK rooftop. A gigantic inflated ‘arm float’ presented like a classical sculpture upon an air-filled grey pedestal. Instead of the logo of the manufacturer, there is the text ‘Rette sich wer kann’ [Save yourself] printed on both sides.
The object refers to a recent trend in society where traditional values of social solidarity increasingly fall by the wayside. The latent maxim: ‘Save yourself!’

The Capitalism Tribunal

The Capitalism Tribunal hears the putative crimes of European capitalism. To do so, from May 1 to 12, 2016, brut, a performative arts venue in Vienna, will be repurposed as a court of law. The Tribunal is based on the assumption that more and more people detect an increasing lack of freedom and inequity. At the same time, an ecological disaster presents itself to them. The applicable law and their sense of justice are drifting apart.
